Week of May 29, 2017

Team -

We are right at the finish line. While we are all tired, let's take that extra breathe and finish as strong as possible. Feel free to utilize administration for students who can not respond to your phone calls home and extra steps you are taking in the discipline process. Also, hold all students accountable for make up time and work needing to be completed. We have much to complete in these last few weeks, between grades, working with students up to the end, evaluation info, and more. I appreciate you doing what we need to do to meet the needs of everyone. It does not go unnoticed.

As a reminder, there are only 3 FULL instructional days left! Please make sure you are putting in EVERY grade immediately into PowerSchool. Plug in “0’s” when students do not turn in assignments on time (quizzes, tests, papers, etc.) Students and their parents need to know exactly where they stand at every moment. Teachers should be having conversations with students about make up time. We only have one more date secured for Saturday School;  June 3 (8am-12 Noon).  As a reminder students should NOT be making up time with another teacher with out their original teacher's permission first. Also, time should NOT be made up during lunch. Time can ONLY be made up during the day if the student AND teacher does not have a class. While there are 4 hours of make up time on Saturday remaining, there is still opportunity if you wish to give it after exam times for students who need those hours.

Teachers of seniors, please remember to provide Mrs. Phillips, Mr. Rainey, Mr. Hawkins and myself a weekly update for students who are "on the radar". The graduation team will alert you if you have a child on the radar. Teachers of ALL grade levels - please e-mail the grade level administrator and counselor if you have any child failing and needs extra motivation. Any students who are habitually late need to be reported as well as their parking permit will be removed for the remainder of the year. Southwest HS is well known for demanding the best out of students as we finish each school year. Let's continue to demonstrate these efforts.

Please continue to greet your students at the doors at the beginning of each class, addressing the basics of SWHS's expectations. We must demonstrate that we are united in upholding our student code of conduct. There should be NO EXCEPTIONS while addressing dress code (I have heard too many reasons why we may not.... if you believe there is a reason, come see me and I will provide a solution to assist you). We, as a staff, continue to send mixed messages to our students and these very students are not hesitating to let the administration aware of who is and who is not upholding the school's expectations. This can be reflected in your evaluation in regards to adhering and upholding expectations. Thank you to everyone who continues to enforce our expectations.

Thank you for everything you continue to do and have a great week!

Week of May 15, 2017

Team -

Teacher Appreciation Week at SWHS.......where do I begin???  I can't express enough how much I appreciate each and every one of you. It has been a blessing for me to be in the position I am, being surrounded by all of you. This has certainly been one interesting year and I admire you all for staying strong and doing what you always do best....... taking care of students. I continue to urge you to see me and speak to me with anything that is on your mind. I can't promise that I am always available, but I will do my best to see you as soon as I possibly can. Also, please take advantage of the various things the PTSA has put in place for you next week (this will be announced by them Monday AM) Last, I certainly expect to see you Friday during your lunch where I will be flipping burgers and spinning hot dogs on a grill outside the cafeteria, while soaking in what makes this school what it is...... YOU!  Thank you for everything team!

While we move forward to the end of the year, please make sure you are putting in EVERY grade immediately into PowerSchool. Week of May 8, 2017

Team -

AP testing continues this week. Great job to Michelle Cook and everyone who has been involved with this process!

A big thank you to everyone who visited me on Friday for open dialogue about various topics. I hope that everyone who participated in this opportunity feels the same as me, a refreshing time to just talk about questions, concerns, or hot topics of the moment. I do plan on holding sessions like this before July 1 comes.
