A big thank you to all the coaching staff from this past
fall season. Thank you for shaping our young people into great young adults on
and off the field. You make a major impact on the positive culture of Southwest
and I am sure I speak for everyone on staff that we thank you for your efforts
each and every day. You make a huge difference!
We have just a little over 4 weeks left before 1st semester exams
start. As we continue to approach crunch time, every minute of every class is
crucial. Bell to bell instruction is vital. Digging into the data to find out
what individual students are in need of, using corrective instruction
rather than re-teaching to meet all students' needs is a must. If certain techniques were
not successful the first time, try something different. Collaborate with your
colleagues about successful practices used. Make sure you are in constant
communication with your students' parents when they are in the D/F range, or
dropping from an A to C. Make contact if attendance or behavior is an issue.
Make positive calls to students, specifically the students who need that praise
to the home. I can assure you that those positive calls go a very long way!
This coming week, we will distribute the one cards in homeroom on Wednesday. We have 100 +/- students who need to have their picture taken. This picture process will occur on Tuesday. This list will be distributed Monday afternoon. The scanning will officially start on Thursday. Scanning stations will be in place Monday so students will know what it looks like and be prepared for Thursday. Please know that I understand this will be a growing process. We are one of 7 pilot schools who will will work through all issues and communicate those to central office for the purpose of a more successful rollout to the remaining schools in the district. Once this gets underway, we will then begin to roll out the Access411 visitor system. We happen to be the only pilot school for this program. More information will be forthcoming about these additional layers of safety and security at our school.
For those of you who teach state tested classes, it is my hope that each of you have reviewed your EVAAS data. I have engaged in very healthy conversations with many of you as you discover areas to improve upon as well as areas to celebrate. I want to thank you ahead of time for your efforts to use this data to make adjustments in your instruction as well as engage in meaningful conversations with your colleagues. Administration is in the planning phase to discuss the EVAAS data with everyone under their evaluation cycle. If you did not meet growth, or met growth in the negative area, please be prepared to share changes you are making to meet the students' needs. If you collaborate with your colleagues and they have exceeded growth or met growth on the positive end of the spectrum, I highly encourage you to seek out strategies that are successfully implemented. The more we lean on each other, the easier and more successful you will find instructional delivery to be.
