Week of February 5th

Hello Ranchers,

Good evening Southwest community!

This coming week is School Counselor's Appreciation Week. Please help me in recognizing the work our School Counseling Department does for our students. There is far more work than most people understand what these talented individuals do on a daily basis. I personally want to thank Mrs. Compton, Ms. Durant, Ms. Graves, Mr. Hawkins, Mrs. Hudgens and Mrs. Richards for the work they contribute to the school. Thank you!

Now that we enter the 2nd week, please make sure you are documenting all sweeps and turning them in to Mrs. O'Neal. All students during all hall movement outside of "in between block" transitions should have hall passes. Staff, please do not send students out of the room without a pass. Also, please make sure you are communicating with Karen Meier about the Media Center usage. Students should not be reporting to the Media Center with a bathroom pass, or without a pass altogether. Students should also be informed that the Media Center is not to be substituted for lunch. If you believe you have a legitimate situation we need to know about, please let the counseling and admin team know about it.

Staff...please mark your calendar as February 11th is the PTSA Walk the Schedule Night. The event starts at 5:30 in the SWHS Auditorium and we will then proceed into ringing the bells to move parents from 1st to 4th blocks.
Another calendar event is February 25th. This is our curriculum night for all under classmen and rising 9th graders. While all students and parents will be able to interact with all of you regarding all the curricular opportunities at SW, we will also have an AP potential overview as well as FAFSA completion session for families who haven’t completed the FAFSA or have questions regarding it.
From the desk of Kristy Cline...
Please wait for Kristy's e-mail this week regarding grades and the next steps to take! Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this statewide process.
Once again, thank you to the entire staff for reminding students to wear their cards correctly. Please reinforce to the students to be wearing the cards around their neck. If you have any feedback or issues, please share that with Mr. Miller. We appreciate all the feedback to date so far that has allowed us to further improve this implementation. Please help us and continue to reinforce the OneCard expectations. I am hearing the request for these cards to be shown in the halls, in classes, in the cafeteria, upon entrance.... I love it. We want the students in the habit of displaying the cards at all times, blue lanyard around the neck, not in the pocket, not inside the shirt, etc. If we start this with high expectations now, I can assure you there will be less of a battle as we proceed. Last, I have requested a meeting with COO Scott McCully to review the pros and Cons and the long range planning of this process to work out a bunch of kinks. I will keep you informed of anything that comes out of that meeting. Thank you again for reinforcing this.
