Week of October 1

Fellow ranchers,

Thank you to Dawn Davis, Stephanie Powell and the SAVE club for leading the charge this past week on promoting kindness, inclusion, teamwork and pledging to promote community and unity.  Thank you to the staff for reinforcing these characteristics and participating in the daily events put before us.

Great job on this past week's tornado drill.  Please make sure you are reviewing ALL procedures with each of your classes. Bring those rosters with you whenever you are leaving your class and take attendance during all drills. I appreciate your efforts to prioritize safety and security on our campus.

A reminder that Wednesday's faculty meetings have now been moved to 7:45AM in the media center.

Thank you for providing us with meaningful feedback that led us to have the Professional Development sessions this past Thursday. If you have desires for specific topics of other professional development sessions, please do not hesitate to let us know. Great job to Dr. Monell and Ms. Shaw for leading the PLC session!

Powder Puff is back in action in the SWHS stadium. Ticket sales start this week, $2 per person. Tickets will be on sale during all lunches this week, Monday to Thursday. Students and parents must have a ticket to enter the game. There will be concessions available, a halftime show and a PE pass incentive game.

Due to the day offs from Hurricane Florence, we will now be in school on November 1st and January 18th. Please mark your calendars.

It's that time again....Seniors in English the first semester at SWHS will give speeches during the evening of November 8th. We need adult volunteers from the community and the "ranch" to judge. If you are interested, we need you from 5:30-8:30 during the evening of November 8th. A meal is provided and we train you using a rubric to give feedback to the students. Simply e-mail Dawn Davis (Davisd9@gcsnc.com) if you are interested. Also - try to send this out to your distribution groups for the next few weeks to further assist Mrs. Davis.

Week of September 24

Fellow ranchers,

Great job on this past week's lockdown drill. We will have a tornado drill coming up this week. Please make sure you are reviewing ALL procedures with each of your classes. I appreciate your efforts to prioritize safety and security on our campus.

Tuesday, we will be in the locations assigned by Mrs. Barnum for the PSAT pre-test administration. This will take less than an hour and we should be back on regular schedule for 2nd block.  Seniors will report to their assigned homeroom and then to the auditorium for a senior meeting. All teachers assigned to those seniors should assist with the meeting.

I know many of you expressed a desire to have some training on writing letters of recommendation. Feeling a little unsure about writing recommendation letters or need a refresher? (Trailer 5 at 8:15 am, 9:00 am, and 10:30 am)  Learn how to bring a student to life with a strong letter of recommendation. This workshop is offered in the College Advising Center, Trailer 5 See you there!

Great job to everyone who is using, analyzing and altering instruction driven by data. If you are still unsure with this process, some colleagues (and I am sure there are more) to collaborate with and to "steal" some great things from... Sarah Corriher, Mashamas Allah, Christine Fry, Stephanie Powell, and David Talley. Keep up the great work to EVERYONE who is using their data to meet the needs of all of their students. I also welcome anyone to visit me if they believe there is are alternative ways to deliver any of these expectations to the staff. If I do not know what the struggles are, it is impossible for me to assist you.

Get ready for evaluations to start as everyone on staff should be complete with their PDP, Self assessment and orientation.

If you are a club advisor, please make sure your club is already planning a service project for each semester. Please make sure it is meaningful and can be tied to the campus of SWHS.  Also, the Crop Walk is Sun. Sept 23 and is the biggest fundraising event to help Open Door ministries in High Point. Mrs. Davis needs your kids.  You do not have to come, but you are welcome 😊.  Please refer to Mrs. Davis' email for proper paperwork.   Please share with all of your club members that they can earn 2 hours of SL by attending and participating.  If they sign up by the Thursday before the walk they MIGHT get a t-shirt.  If you don’t have time to make copies of the forms, tell your members to come to D126 and Mrs. Davis will have copies of this form outside her door.  Questions? Just email Mrs. Davis- this is a fun and family friendly event.

Week of September 17

Fellow ranchers,

I hope each of you, including your friends and relatives, are safe from this weekend's storm.  Let's allow this to serve as a reminder that we should be well versed on all safety procedures at our school. Please make sure all procedures have been reviewed in each of your classes. (Notice the schoolwide drill coming up this week

I have been in a few PLCs this past week, and those PLCs demonstrated a great start to the year, especially to understanding the process behind an effective PLC. Thank you. If you are still unsure about the process behind an effective PLC, please meet with Ms. Shaw immediately.

Kudos to the staff who are being very creative on their PDPs and are exploring ways to not only improve their own instruction, but exploring ways to enhance their colleagues' instruction as well. There are great things happening on the campus of SWHS!!!  I love the team approach and the positive mindset!

Administration will start meeting with you to discuss your PDP goals. Your evaluation cycle will start shortly thereafter. Please makes sure you have goals 1 and 2 complete and are currently awaiting feedback on goal 3.

Just email Mrs. Davis- this is a fun and family friendly event.

Interim reports have been moved to Thursday to allow you all to get your grades in and make contacts to the home. Please remember to contact parents for any Ds and Fs, or any As that drop to a C. A valid contact is when you get confirmation of your efforts in communicating. Are there concerns about attendance, behavior? Again, make sure you reach the home for support.

Week of September 10

Fellow ranchers,

Another amazing week!  This past week, accountability results were released from the state on all public schools. Schools across the state can be designated as not having met expected growth, meeting expected growth, and exceeding expected growth. For the 4th year in a row, SWHS has EXCEEDED expected growth. We also increased in the areas of Graduation rate, ACT proficiency, Work keys proficiency and other areas. Please take a moment (or more) to celebrate your efforts on behalf of our students and community.  They are lucky to have you and on behalf of the administrative team, we are lucky to have you on the team. As we have already started to focus on this school year, I look forward to us taking on the challenges before us and continuing to grow our students. I'll have more specific information about the growth we have demonstrated and the challenges we need to address by the middle of the week.   Thank you again.

Grading - Please make sure you are calling families on the students who have been demonstrating some difficulties early on.Even when Parent Assist starts back up in a week, let's not rely solely on the computer to communicate grades and absences.

Teachers and Support Staff -  Please go to your NCED cloud/True North Logic accounts and complete the Self Assessment and the Orientation activities. This self assessment is in the PDP container. The Orientation is in the observation container

DO NOT start your PDP until we guide you on the School system/School wide goals.
