Staff,
Thank you for an excellent week! I know the attendance as vey different form class to class for the Virtual Open House, but we had over 400 hits to the Virtual Open House links. I also had a ton of parents complimenting the process and your availability. A big thank you to those that fought through the frigid temperatures the night of textbook pick up. I hope you agree with me that it was so nice to see all those faces of our students and parents. Once again, many compliments from the community on a well run event. I believe many of us are still in the thawing process.
Questions/Concerns from Faculty Meeting Answered - LINK
Please turn in your EC verification roster to Mrs. Hmiel’s room C-122 by Wed. February 3rd. This is ONLY for EC students.
Mrs. Wright will send a separate email to the staff as to how she will verify your viewing of 505 plans.
As it relates to the IEP viewing process, feel free to click on this link for all the files shared.
To view students' IEPs:
- View the video (attachment 1) or written directions
(attachment 2).
- View your students' IEPs. Remember that some
students may be listed because you attended their IEP meeting, but they
are not in your classes.
- Fill out the accommodations sheets for your records
(attachment 3 or 4). Share with teacher assistants and subs.
- Complete the verification sheet (attachment 5).
Remember to sign the statement at the bottom of page 1.
- Please return the completed verification sheet
(attachment 5) to Ms. Hmiel’s room C 122 by
4:30 pm on Wednesday February 3.
- EC Case Managers will contact you to discuss any
students that have behavior plans.
Reminder: all ELs who are eligible for
accommodations don't necessarily get accommodations. Even if a student scored
less than a 5.0 on the yearly ACCESS English proficiency exam, all
accommodations are designated on a case-by-case basis, as required by law.
If one of your students who is eligible for accommodations doesn't have them,
and you think that student would benefit from additional
time and/or read aloud, please contact us within the next month and
we can add it.
Remember: growth over mastery and breadth, not depth.
- Please Make sure ALL
Administrators are added to your TEAMS courses. Administrators should be
added as owners. Please also add:
- Mrs.
Moore
- Inclusion
Teachers for your course and
- TA’s
that will be assisting with Student support in your courses.
*Admin do NOT need to be added to your canvas course,

Safety Check-In - You must use this process
GCS has started a new Process to enter School
buildings. This change is County-wide, not just SW. Below are some short details and instructions, and I have
attached more detailed instructions
GCS staff has begun using the Safety iPass App as the universal
attestation process. Safety iPass is designed to make daily check-in’s a
little faster, while still taking the precautions necessary for keeping us all
as safe as possible. This process should be done BEFORE entering the building.
- Instead of taking the time
to answer daily health questions when staff arrive, they will instead
answer them on a computer or mobile device before entering the building.
Beginning Monday, staff will receive an email each day with a link to the
screening questions. Once they complete the screening, they show the
completion screen when they arrive at work; take their temperature (record if
100.4 or above) and then enter the building. It is important that
a staff member be identified as a building monitor (can
rotate responsibility) and tasked with checking the
completion screen; taking temperatures and logging any temperatures 100.4
or above.
- Mr. Hettenbach will receive a daily status report and access to the Safety iPass dashboard that allows him to pull reports on staff and eventually, student responses. If a staff member is coded other than green, he will receive an immediate notification indicating that staff member should not enter your building.
Pease click here if a parent is need guidance in setting up a Parent Portal account. If you have any difficultly with this process, please have them e-mail Mrs.Cline at clinek2@gcsnc.com.
This video has been used district wide to provide information regarding pairing student and parent accounts in Canvas so parents can access what is due, what has been submitted, graded, etc. You’ll see in the video that one of the key pieces is a pairing code that can only originate from the student account holder. Please share with parents.

Grade changes can be submitted after spreadsheets have been turned in. I have attached the grade change form that has to be filled out for all grade changes. You will make the change in your gradebook but you have to give me the form to let me know what you have changed in order for me to store the grade in their historical marks.
