Week of March 18

Hello Ranchers,

The most common concern I am hearing from the faculty is the lack of consistency in dress code and sweeping expectations.  I personally have always encouraged teachers as they monitor the halls by their classroom door to welcome students, address any dress code issues, and encourage students to get to class on time. If you are not in the hallways, we need to start being visible. I challenge everyone to meet these expectations. If you do not like certain dress code rules, that does not mean to ignore reinforcing those expectations. At the end of the year, I will give a survey out to the staff if we believe we need to adjust any dress code expectations for the 2019-2020 school year. In the meantime, we still need to uphold what we have in place. Thank you for making any necessary adjustments.

Hopefully some of you saw the "A-Pep" rally this past Thursday. It was a great event! Kudos to Dr. Monell for organizing this, the staff members who spoke, as well as the students who participated on the panel. We continue to make efforts towards our goals and following the Mission of this school. Great job!

We have a special program on March 26th, Tuesday, called VIP for a VIP. This is for Juniors and seniors only. You may recall us having this program quite a long time ago. The VIP for a VIP program will consist of a one hour presentation in the auditorium around 10:00 providing testimony and statistics directly related to teenage fatalities. We may not have the capacity to have juniors during the AM session, but we will keep you informed.  In the afternoon, Juniors and Seniors will assemble outside for a demonstration of a fatal car crash.

This program is dedicated to the students that have lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents while attending Southwest Guilford High School since it opened.  We sincerely believe that through an on-going teenage driver education program and strong parental support, teenage traffic fatalities can be eliminated in our community. We consider the students at Southwest Guilford High School VIP's. If any parent wishes for their child not to participate, please send a note in to the school directed to me.

Grading must be put in PowerSchool each week. If you think as a parent who wants to be an active part of a child's academics, it is hard to play that role when there is no documentation to respond to. Please keep the grades updated each week, and make sure you are providing enough grades as you navigate through the semester.

Please reinforce to the students to be wearing the cards around their neck. Look how happy she is wearing that lanyard!
