Week of September 30

Hello Ranchers!

Thank you for a great week. It was a crazy morning this past Friday to pack in all those various tasks in order to minimize disruptions on multiple days. Thank you all your patience and assistance to get through that time in the morning. Based on your feedback in the latest survey as it relates to minimizing disruptions, the administrative team will make effort to minimize the disruptions during the year.
If there are any Sophomores or Juniors who missed the mandatory PSAT preadministration activity, they will have the opportunity to make it up at 11:30 on Tuesday, October 1, in the media center.  Students should bring a number 2 wooden pencil.  Mrs. Barnum is the contact for this mandatory make up session.
OneCard wearing will be starting soon. Now that we have most pictures taken, we will have an Access411 representative on site to snap and print on the spot until ALL students have a card and a lanyard. Also - if any student needs a lanyard, there are a bunch in the teacher's mail room in the yellow rolling basket.
Any seniors who missed the retakes for the senior pictures can contact Lifetouch the following e-mail address wcarter@lifetouch.com
This Monday, we start additional changes with bus routes. While times continue to improve, they are still not acceptable. It is my hope we see drastic changes this coming week. If not, I will continue to put pressure on more changes as it is not acceptable for our most at risk students (let alone any students) to miss this much instructional time in the AM. We are also working closely with the High Point Police Department to minimize the amount of construction that takes place on Skeet Club during High Traffic time before and after school. Last, we are waiting for reusable bus passes to arrive from the print shop for better monitoring of students who get off the bus and are late.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid Day! FASFA opens up Oct. 1. Please remind families through your distribution lists to begin the application (send the picture below as well to your contacts).(https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa). They can also go to www.cfnc.org for one stop shop for scholarships searches, apply for college, study for tests, send transcripts, and much more.

One scholarship in the amount of $500 for one 10th-12th grade student will be awarded that night!!!

Week of September 23

Hello Ranchers!

Another GREAT week!

Thank you for everyone who took their time to contribute to the survey I sent out this past week. Your feedback is crucial to making necessary changes as well as to provide reason to celebrate. Your department chair at the Leadership Team meeting this past Thursday was provided highlights of the results and areas that need specific feedback to assist the administrative team as we continue to progress forward. One area that continues to stick out is the lack of consistency in upholding school wide expectations. Please speak about how this can be better addressed within your department when upholding all school-wide expectations so we are consistent from one side of the campus all the way through and over to the other side.

Great job at the Professional Development this past Wednesday. Thank you for providing feedback on these areas as well so we know how this Professional Development is received and how we can do better each month.

This past Thursday evening, I had a chance to celebrate Odetta Bassett and her GCS ACT Teacher of the year award at the GCS Celebration of Excellence at Grimsley High School. Southwest High was also recognized for the outstanding graduation results and being named in US News Best High Schools. Thank you for all that YOU do!
A gentle reminder from my e-mail on Thursday that we have still not received the permission from GCS to start our tutoring buses. Please do not tell students there will be a bus until I announce this.
Friday, September 27th, is a hectic day and I have tried to schedule all items early in the morning. Please see below:

All students will go to homerooms

  1. Sophomores and Juniors will complete their Pre-Administration PSAT Answer sheet (in their homeroom) with the homeroom teacher  - more info to follow (from Mrs. Barnum)
  2. Freshmen will stay in homeroom and any retakes for pictures will follow schedule below
  3. Seniors will report to homeroom (attendance taken) and then be sent to the auditorium for a senior meeting. During that meeting, we will release “retake picture students”.
  4. Sophomores and Juniors picture retakes will be handled AFTER the PSAT Pre-Administration process.
  5. Homecoming Court Nominations will take place in ALL homerooms (REQUIRED):
    1. Freshman and seniors – immediately at the start of homeroom (Repko will follow up)
