Week of September 16

Hello Ranchers!

A GREAT 3 weeks with more coming our way.....
Thank you for everyone's effort in completing the Self Assessment, Orientation and PDP correctly. Many great goals were observed where staff are challenging themselves. Your personal challenges are greatly appreciated. We now head into week 4. Administration will start their observation cycles. Please make sure your are following your curriculum, your standards are posted and match your instruction, assessments are provided to all of your students and you are diving into the data to find out who needs assistance based on those results. Please keep up your GREAT work!

As you have conversations with your juniors and seniors regarding future interests, please make sure they have their counselors Remind Codes and are checking the SWGHS website under the counseling tab to see all the different scholarships and opportunities that are offered. Feel free to copy the counseling corner below at any time when sending out e-mails to your distribution list.
This coming Wednesday is our first Planning Period Professional Development. Please plan on being present in the Media Center Computer lab 10 minutes after your planning period starts. During these PDs, you should not be grading papers, surfing the internet, etc. Thank you for being fully focused on the monthly PD.

Today (Friday - or pending when you read this), Dr. Contreras, Superintendent, and Board Chairwoman, Deena Hayes, visited our campus. In the classes they visited, they were pleased to see standards posted and that they were matching what was taught, engaged students, teachers circulating, rigor, diverse classrooms at all levels, expectations set and posted and followed by the students. They even complimented how well our students traveled in the hall, interacting with each other, no profanity heard, no electronics, and teachers supervising the halls as well as outside the doors. I was told during the visit that they have never seen a high school with such great hall transition in between classes.  Thank you to everyone who keeps maintaining expectations, setting high standards within their classroom, and building strong relationships with our students. Kudos!
We ARE...Southwest!

A gentle reminder to return phone calls and e-mails within a 24 hour period (1 day). Please welcome all conferences and deliver respectful and responsive service. That is a very high expectation of GCS and I absolutely endorse these practices.

One scholarship in the amount of $500 for one 10th-12th grade student will be awarded that night!!!

Free Application for Federal Student Aid Day! FASFA opens up Oct. 1 so start to begin the application with parents (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa), go to www.cfnc.org for one stop shop for scholarships searches, apply for college, study for tests, send transcripts, and much more.

Please assist the counseling team with consistently sharing information from their department (through your e-list, reminds, on your white board, etc.)

Seniors should start to work on college applications.

Look at counseling website for more information on SW site.

Seniors need to complete the NC Residency which is required by all NC Schools. That is also located on cfnc.org.

Students, especially juniors and seniors, begin to tour schools. Register on the college site.

Check remind and emails weekly for information from the counseling department
