Week of December 5, 2016

Events of the Week: This is a very quiet week. It still feels strange to have 5 days this week to teach. I appreciate your patience as we work through yet another round of HVAC issues. When I arrived this summer, Mrs. Barnum told me it was this way, I wondered how bad could it really be. I wonder no more folks. We seem to be getting a lot of write ups lately as attitudes seem to be changing with a few of our students. Please make sure you are on duty and report to us anything that you feel we need to know. I would rather us intervene than have to suspend. Please make sure that you double check the duty schedule for this week and don't forget about the faculty meeting on Wednesday.

Week of November 28, 2016

Events of the Week: I hope you all enjoyed your time off with friends and family over the Thanksgiving Holiday. You should be rested and ready to finish this year strong! When we do return, I would like for all of us to focus on the number of students with low or failing grades. Remember, parent contact is a must. While the parent portal, remind apps, and other types of communication are tools, nothing beats a phone call home from you. If you are having difficulty getting a hold of a parent, please reach out to us for assistance. We can send a letter or possibly even do a home visit to encourage parent involvement. I appreciate your help with reaching all of our students.

Events of the Week: A full week!! The time off is nice, but it is hard to get into a rhythm when we are not here on a consistent basis. I hope everyone found the copier training helpful. We are so dependent on those machines that we need to take care in how we use them each and every day. Administration is trying to finish up all of our 1st round observations before Thanksgiving. Week of November 7, 2016

Events of the Week: I know this week is chopped up with us having Tuesday and Friday off without our students. We have noticed that a few of our young cherubs are beginning to push the envelop a little with the increase in discipline referrals lately. Please make contact with parents for assistance with issues and also please utilize us to help curb inappropriate classroom behavior. Sometimes a sit down with you, your student, and one of us can make a huge difference. With the holidays coming, I know this can get a bit crazier if we are not consistent with our expectations. FYI: HPU is hosting a Veterans Day Celebration at 8:00 AM on Friday for those who are interested. They will be presenting our school with a new US flag.

Week of October 31, 2016

Events of the Week:
Starting this week, a student tardy and all tardy sweeps will be recorded differently. After you sweep a student, please give the form signed by the student to Mrs. O'Neal so that the tardy can be recorded in PowerSchool for the period that the student has been swept. This will ensure that our records will be accurate and parents will also get to see their students attendance daily by using the Parent Portal. Your role will not change except to give the form to Mrs. O'Neal and not the grade administrator. Students will still get consequences, but we are trying to streamline the process. I will explain in further detail at the Wednesday morning faculty meeting.

Week of October 24, 2016

Events of the Week: At the beginning of the year, we decided to allow students to wear their spirit shirts on Fridays for their particular sports. We found it too difficult to try to figure out who is playing on which days to police dress code. This way they still get to wear them and we know the day. I am also allowing Clubs and the Arts to wear their shirts as well on Fridays to promote their programs. All students will always be in dress code bottoms on Fridays. Monday through Thursday, all students should be in dress code unless we state otherwise. I hope this clears up any confusion. I cannot believe the first 9 weeks will be complete this week! Amazingly fast!

I know that last week was fun for the students and teachers with the spirit wear shirts and jeans on Friday. This Wednesday we will need all hands on deck to make sure that the Plan and PSAT testing goes well for our 10th and 11th grade students. Make sure that you are reading the emails that Mrs. Meier is sending out so you know where to be and what is going on for that day. Please encourage all students to come and take these assessments. Week of September 26, 2016

Events of the Week:
I hope you enjoyed the early release PD last Wednesday. A lot of information was shared and I appreciate everyone that presented and shared. I have enjoyed reading your answers to the questionnaire regarding purpose and why we do what we do. For the rest of this school year, I will continue to probe and ask questions to gauge our progress. My wish is for us to consistently reflect on everything we do in order to reach our goals. We are going to look at data, present best practices, and develop ways to improve teaching and learning. I know for some of you this is going to take you out of your comfort zone, but in order to get better, we must be willing to look inward. If you ever have a question as to our direction, please do not hesitate to stop by and talk. Week of September 19, 2016

Events of the Week:
I know I said we would not make a lot of changes early, but I guess that was not quite true for a few things. We will no longer be sending home Interim Reports with all students. Please help us to encourage all parents to access the Parent Portal. You are only required to send home paper reports to students with D's or F's and parents that do not have any access to Powerschool.  You can send them home either Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will have our first faculty meeting/staff development. The theme or topic I want you to think about is "purpose". As we navigate through this year together, I want us to stop along the way and reflect on why we do what we do each day and how we can improve. Many of your PLC discussions in the future will be centered on our purpose as educators and what we can do to help all students.
Please help me welcome 2 new faces to "The Ranch", Shannon Taylor and Zenaida Flores. Both are new teacher assistances in our EC department.

I am hoping that all HVAC issues will be resolved this week. I know it has been hot, and I appreciate your patience. This week in your PLCs, we would like you to develop your vision and mission for this year. Developing a purpose helps us stay focused on why we do what we do each and every day. We are going to steer your discussions throughout this year, but want to know what it is you all want to accomplish as a team. This will help us find the resources that you need to be successful. The administrative team will also begin our observation cycles this week, So look for an individual email from your evaluator on the process. We will also be visiting classrooms and doing walkthroughs using our Iphones. We are recording data that we will share with you at the end of each quarter for reflection.
