As we only have 8 days until teacher exams start, please make sure you are communicating to parents whose students have Ds or Fs, or who have slid from an A to a C. Additionally, please keep admin and counselors involved the rest of this way on all students who are in danger of failing.
9th grade - Miller/Compton
10th grade - Monell/Counselor (by last name)
11th grade -Barnum/Counselor

Please take notice at "Hearts for Seniors" in the main hallway of the front office. If every staff member can pick 5 or more Hearts and write a positive note on the back, that would help this project be very successful. You may pick a student you taught years ago, or have known since their childhood, have in class currently, coached, or even your own child. You do not even need to know the student to write a positive message. These hearts will then be posted alongside the fence down at the stadium for the senior picnic.
As we near the end of the school year, I would like us to reflect on some practices that have been occurring lately and that need to be adjusted. When students are disruptive in your classroom, I understand they may need to step outside for a breather to regather themselves. While I support that when necessary, in some cases, students are being told to "get out". If the behavior is that bad that the student does not need to return, a phone call must occur to either an admin or counselor. Telling a student to "get out" of one's classroom without involving an admin or counselor is not how we operate at SW. Too many things can happen after that directive occurs and this becomes a liability issue if something were to occur. Please allow admin and counselors to be involved in situations like this. Also, follow up with the student's home to communicate the situation and expectations of your classroom. If you are needing the student to simply take that breather to regroup, be clear with your directives to the student.
Yearbooks are here and will be distributed to students starting on May 24 at the senior picnic. Get yours before they are all sold out! Yearbooks are $80. You can pay Mrs. Bratton in D124 with cash or check. Checks should be written out to SWGHS.
We are still in need of judges for our Senior Speech night this Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Judges are needed from 5:00 pm-approximately 8:30 pm. We will serve dinner at 5:00 with a short training prior to heading to classrooms where seniors will be sent to you to present their research.
If you are interested and able to judge for us this Spring please fill out the form linked below to let Mrs. Meier know of your availability. We appreciate your willingness to give your time to listen to our seniors present their projects.
Remind all students, particularly seniors to turn in all media center and pay for balances from the cafeteria in order to walk at graduation. Seniors should turn in ALL school owned items before May 31st.
Virtual learning registration forms for summer and fall are available. Have the students see their counselor for more information.
In order for their ALVS teachers to submit final grades by June 4th, 2019, GCS seniors will need to submit all teacher-scored assignments by midnight EST on May 26th.
Teacher-scored assignments include Practices, Journals, Projects, Teacher-Scored Tests (TSTs), Discussions (Honors only), and Explore (Honors only). Final exams and any remaining Quizzes must be completed by May 31st.

You will need to print out and give to me only the Score
Sheet which is your spreadsheet with assignments & final grade.
Please don’t turn them in until they are as correct as they will be.
Report cards
will be mailed to students June 19th.
Grade changes can be submitted after report cards have been
printed. (For instructions on changing grades - AKA “manually
overriding grades” please see the attachment). I have attached the grade
change form that has to be filled out for all grade changes. You will make the
change in your gradebook but you have to give me the form to let me know what
you have changed so I can store the grades which will update student’s
transcript.
